Associate/Vice President, Support Developer, Credit - New York City

Position Summary

Mid-to-senior level Java & Oracle developer, part of a global team of 8 developers.

The Credit Development team develops and support Markit’s Credit Derivatives range of products and is based in Markit’s London office.

To meet the growing needs of our New York-based Credit Analysts/Operations team we are adding a developer in NY to provide local support, technical expertise and perform tactical enhancements.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Operational support and tactical development of financial services software using Java and Oracle technologies, remotely working as part of a small team of developers.
  • The role will be expected to support the New York Credit Analysts to help interpret system behavior, diagnose problems, implement solutions and provide tactical development as required.
  • The role will require the successful candidate to balance the need to work independently and support our New York user base with the need to work within the policies and practices of the rest of the Credit Development team. The successful candidate will remain in close communication with their peers, leveraging the experience of, and escalating to, the London team as required.

Business Competencies

  • The right candidate will have a very strong academic or equivalent background in a numerate discipline.
  • Solid, proven professional programming experience.
  • Highly demonstrable Java/J2EE design and implementation experience essential
  • Strong experience with an enterprise-grade relational database management system, preferably Oracle
  • Experience with highly numeric applications advantageous.
  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record actively contributing to the implementation of innovative, best-practice-based, technical solutions in a complex and challenging environment
  • Project Management skills is a plus.
  • Commercial Awareness: Financial Markets knowledge is advantageous, ideally in Derivatives, Credit or Fixed Income

Personal Competencies

  • Ability to work independently on a local basis but as part of a team on a global basis.
  • Good understanding of the need for clear status reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage internal client relationships and resolve potentially conflicting requirements and timescales.
  • Experience working with a remote line manager/team leader across time zones a plus.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills and fluent English essential.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to work within successful programming teams (both locally and remotely) is essential.
